Maybe that's where the filtering should go.

  • So these use a proprietary dust filter with a chip and DRM to prevent use of any other filters or use of the filter beyond a set date. A quick Googlesearch™ shows that it's trivial to disable the DRM and wash and re-use the filters. Might consider purchasing now.

This sounds like the opposite of what I got before, which is still going strong.

Plus I don't need a device to fuck up my air and stuff unless it will infuse everything with sativa (so I can still get shit done)

  • I bought one last time and I have two things to say.

    1. I opened it up and removed the microchip that makes it shut off after the filter has been used for the 3 months or whatever. The filters can be easily washed and reused after that.
    2. As far as actually removing dust and being an "air purifier" it sucks. I let it run for a couple months and the filter had done hardly anything. The desk it was sitting on was covered in dust. Almost like the unit was pulling the dust towards it but not actually collecting it so it just settled on everything around it.This was before I tampered with removing the microchip so it was running as it was intended to.

    • @MrDylan I no longer use it as it didn't rly do anything for my bedroom that I had it in. It now sits in a corner unused. I might ry to dismantle it one day to make it into a regular table fan somehow. It is at least quieter than most and once you take the chip out it runs faster too.

  • They work well in smaller closed spaces. I've had one in the bedroom for 2 months now and there is noticeably less dust on the chest of drawers and bookshelf. We have one in the living room, where it looks like nothing has changed by using the swiffer. Didn't know about the microchip trick, so looking forward to that.

The problem I have had with previous devices is the third and fourth mortgages needed to replace filters.

    Can this one be washed?

  • Mine's been in my 'great room' (not my word, it's what the previous owners called it) - big room w/ cathedral ceiling, pile carpet and lots of dust.
No real way to judge if it's doing much - the filter looks a bit more gray than the white it was when new.

Once the electronic timer shuts it off - any day now - I'll hack it, wash the filter and then try it in my bedroom - a much smaller room, I keep the door closed at all times (no cats allowed!) and it also gets very linty-dusty.
Should be more noticeable in there if it's actually doing anything worthwhile.

  • I love mine, I've had it for a few months–when we first got them on Morningsave. I actually ended up buying more filters to go in the item. For anyone having issues putting it together:

Need to plug it in here:

Need to wrap the filter around, I have it turned on so you can see:

IT DOES NOT GO AROUND THE ENTIRE BASE. If you force it and say "It doesn't fit", it's because of this. I know because I WAS that person when I first bought it. I didn't read the instructions and I rushed to get it together.

And as you can see, there is some discoloration from dust. I have it in the office where it's carpeted flooring. Two cats and three people in the house, it helps this room feel a bit better.

  • If you got one, put a piece of Scotch tape somewhere INside the filter and on a different place on the outside. Say 2 inches x .75 inch width of the tape. Then after a month you can compare the color under the tape to the rest of it to see if it does anything at all.

Hack took about 30-45 minutes total for 2 units. Pretty easy. Bags came totally clean in wash. Like a brand new unit. (I did have to wipe off fan blades and the wire mesh protecting fan.)

Thanks @squishybrain for posting this earlier.
